Leveraging immersive technology in training can significantly boost retention by providing hands-on, engaging experiences that help learners better absorb and retain critical skills.
With this in mind, on October 24, Reuzer, Infinite Form, and EEEGR (The East of England Energy Group) teamed up to host an insightful event focused on the application of immersive technology in safety-critical training.
The event spotlighted how Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) can transform training in industries where safety and precision are non-negotiable.
An exciting element of the event was a VR simulation developed in collaboration with WSG (Well Services Group), a prominent oil and gas company. Drawing on WSG’s expertise, the team created a “double block and bleed” VR scenario—an essential safety technique used to isolate hazardous materials during maintenance.
This immersive experience allowed participants to engage with a realistic simulation of the procedure, gaining practical familiarity in a fully risk-free environment.
Alongside this VR experience, attendees had access to a range of other VR and AR demonstrations, showcasing immersive applications across various safety-critical fields. These demonstrations highlighted the possibilities of using VR and AR to give employees hands-on training that builds confidence and preparedness for real-world situations without any associated dangers.
A distinctive aspect of the event was the focus on local innovation from the East of England. The hosting partners—Reuzer, Infinite Form, and EEEGR—are all locally based, underscoring the region’s growing reputation as a hub for technological innovation and expertise.
By bringing together industry players and tech leaders from the region, the event not only demonstrated the potential of immersive technology for training but also celebrated the talent emerging from within the East of England.
The event concluded on a successful note, with participants expressing excitement over how VR and AR could apply to their day-to-day roles. Attendees left with a clearer understanding of how these immersive tools can enable safer, hands-on learning in training environments, reinforcing both safety and skill.
The event highlighted not only the transformative potential of VR and AR but also the innovation and expertise that local companies are bringing to the forefront of this field.
Reuzer would like to extend our thanks to EEEGR, Infinite Form and WSG for the support and collaboration – we look forward to the next event.
