Furthermore, a recent survey found that 20% of respondents would go to great lengths to avoid presenting, with some admitting they’d pretend to be sick or ask a colleague to step in.

These figures underscore the critical need for a supportive environment like the EEEGR Speakers Club.

Sponsored and supported by EEEGR member Scottish Power Renewables, the club was founded by a passionate group of individuals who understand the importance of public speaking for career development. Key planners include Ian Smith (Founder of Reuzer), Kevin Keable (EEEGR Chair), Julian Hammond (Founder of TIPS for Good Management), Robert Lovick (Accomplished Speaker and Former Police Officer), Will Norris (EEEGR Events Executive), and Daniel Bradley (Shell Lead Project Engineer).

Together, they have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life, recognising that at some point, most professionals will need to deliver a presentation—whether to a team, client, or audience at an industry event.

The club aims to foster a safe and supportive environment where members can practice and refine their skills. Meetings are held bi-weekly and rotate between Great Yarmouth, Norwich, and Lowestoft to ensure accessibility.

Open to all EEEGR members, the sessions provide a structured agenda that includes:

Impromptu Two-Minute Speeches: Participants are challenged to think on their feet and deliver short, unrehearsed talks on various topics.

Prepared Seven-Minute Speeches: Members have the opportunity to craft and deliver longer, more polished presentations.

Speech Evaluations: Constructive feedback is provided to help speakers improve.

‘Ah and Erm’ Counter: A fun but effective method to eliminate filler words like “um” and “err.”

The club is designed to cater to individuals at all levels of experience, from beginners just starting their public speaking journey to seasoned presenters seeking to refine their craft. Each session aims to push participants outside of their comfort zones while ensuring a positive and encouraging atmosphere.

The inaugural meeting was a resounding success, with over 25 EEEGR members in attendance. Kevin Keable hosted the session, setting the tone for an engaging and productive event. Prepared speeches were delivered by Ian Smith and Julian Hammond, both of whom inspired attendees with their insights and expertise.
