Sometimes the best way to show progress is by looking back at the old way of doing things—and then showing how much better things could be.

That was the idea behind our latest project with RigTools, where we were tasked with creating a slick, to-the-point 3D animation to introduce their RigTools Clamp and highlight just how big a difference it can make on the drill floor.

This project is actually the first of five animations we’re creating as part of a wider video series for RigTools—each one showcasing a different product and its practical benefits on-site. The collaboration came about thanks to Reuzer’s membership with the IADC SAPC chapter, where we first connected with the RigTools team. Proof, if ever it were needed, that good things happen when great minds in the industry come together.

90 seconds

RigTools’ clamp is designed to replace traditional—and let’s be honest, slightly sketchy—manual handling and slinging methods. It features self-locking hooks, no loose parts, and a simple, balanced lift system that works whether you’re installing vertically or horizontally. Oh, and it weighs less than 10kg. Basically, it’s all about improving safety and efficiency in one elegant bit of kit.

Our brief was clear: make a short, sharp animation that demonstrates exactly how the clamp works, shows why it’s better, and leaves no doubt that this is a serious upgrade.

Telling the story

We went with a clear and visual narrative: first, demonstrate the old way—manual slinging, potential dropped-object hazards, all the usual suspects. Then, we contrast that with the RigTools Clamp in action. No drama. No confusion. Just a simple, safe, fast process.

To help drive that message home, we modelled the clamp from scratch in full 3D, ensuring every detail was accurate and true to the product. From the metallic sheen to the wear and tear on the sub, we wanted this to feel like the real deal.

We also brought in full character animation to add a human element—because safety isn’t just about tools, it’s about the people using them. The animated workers in the video demonstrate both methods side by side, making the improvement crystal clear.

Clean, sharp and realistic

Visually, the animation sticks to a clean, minimalistic style. A neutral grey background keeps all the focus on the tools and the process and the colour grading helps key elements stand out. The lighting, material detail, and animation pacing all help make the video feel grounded and realistic, without tipping into over-complicated territory.

It’s sharp, professional, and communicates everything it needs to in just 90 seconds.

Results that speak for themselves

The final output is being used by RigTools as a product demo—showcasing the clamp’s features at a glance, while helping safety teams and operators visualise exactly how it works and why it’s a better choice. No need for pages of documentation or technical explanations. Just hit play and see for yourself.

“Great working with the team, looking forward to working together on the rest of the videos!

We’re really happy with the results so far.”

This is exactly the kind of project we love: one where smart design and better safety come together, and we get to help tell that story in a way that’s simple, effective, and totally watchable.
