This comprehensive project management overview grew out of a powerful partnership between Reuzer and Shearwater. And the result is a modern and highly visual digital training suite introducing the essential skills, methodologies and processes required to deliver projects effectively.
Over the duration of these 3 modules, some serious ground is covered. From an initial look at what projects are, exploring the typical elements of a project, right through to risk management, methodologies, and team roles and responsibilities.
This suite has it all...
The client
Shearwater is an innovative global provider of 3D and 4D marine seismic data, imaging products and data processing software. Their fleet of modern purpose-built vessels leads the industry with their towed and Ocean Bottom seismic acquisition capabilities.
Their proprietary seismic processing software, Reveal, has been entirely developed in the 21st century and is the most modern, highly interactive, efficient and user-friendly platform for all aspects of processing and imaging in the market.

Production
Project management can be applied to many scenarios, from building a home extension, managing humanitarian aid in a natural disaster, to the acquisition of ocean bottom seismic data. However, regardless of the project type, there are a lot of processes and stages in common across them all.
But, before we can dive into the processes and methodologies it’s important to build some firm foundations. So with the help of some slick 2D animation we initially touch on some basic definitions and the fundamental balance of time, cost and scope – which is relevant to every project and a critical concept to appreciate.
Then, and after building some base knowledge we move on to explore the Project Management Institute’s 5 key project phases: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and finally closing a project.

We also explore some of the typical methodologies, such as waterfall, agile, six sigma and PRINCE2, before covering some of the common tools used to manage and control a project, such as gantt charts, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Trello, and Excel. And using Shearwater’s subject matter expertise, and years of experience in managing projects, we were able to include some real world scenarios to help show the concepts in relatable and practical settings.
