Illustrating incidents

When a UK-based independent oil and gas business experienced a high-potential incident, they needed a way to illustrate the scenario clearly and effectively.

Typically, safety bulletins are shared as PDFs—detailed, informative, but often dry.

This time, they wanted something more engaging, something that would truly resonate with their teams.

That’s where we came in.

The goal was simple: take a real-life incident and transform it into a clear, concise, and engaging animated video—helping teams visualise exactly what happened, how it unfolded, and the lessons to be learned.

To do this, we:

Immersed ourselves in the details – The client provided statements, images, and a safety bulletin. From there, we asked the right questions to ensure we fully understood the scenario.

Illustrated the story – Every scene was created in Adobe Illustrator by the talented Emily Denby, balancing realism with efficiency to ensure a high-quality look without excessive production costs.

Added depth with animation – The animation needed to flow smoothly, reinforcing key points without distraction. 2D animation was the perfect choice—clean, effective, to the point and perfectly executed by Ed Suckling.

Built tension with sound – To add realism and impact, we layered in sound effects and a professional voiceover from Charlie Keable, ensuring the narrative hit home.

The result?

A sub-3-minute animated video that walked viewers through the event step by step—how it happened, the human factors at play (overly detailed procedures and misunderstanding of safe systems of work), and the potential catastrophic outcome had it escalated.

Every second of the video was carefully scripted to ensure it remained sharp, concise, and relevant.

When the client saw the finished animation, their reaction said it all:

“You have absolutely nailed this one.

I’m so impressed with this video and cannot wait to share it with management for review and approval.”

For us, this project was right in our sweet spot.

We love transforming complex safety-critical messages into compelling, digestible content.

Animated incident reports like this don’t just replace PDFs—they enhance learning, helping teams absorb crucial lessons in a consistent, clear, and memorable way. And, when done right, they don’t have to break the bank either.

If your business is looking for a better way to share safety lessons, we’re here to help.
