When one of the largest London-listed independent oil and gas companies knocked on our door, they had a clear challenge: help their people understand competence assessment—without making it feel like a dry, corporate lecture.

They needed an e-learning course that broke down the essentials of competence. What is it? How is it different from training? Why does it matter? How do you measure and record it? And, crucially, how do you provide feedback that actually helps?

Bringing competence to life

With a tight six-week turnaround, we got to work scripting, building, and deploying a 25-minute e-learning course that was interactive, engaging, and visually driven. Our approach? No text-heavy slides, no overwhelming theory—just clear, to-the-point learning with strong visuals and engaging narration.

We blended a mix of custom visuals, short animations, and stock video to make key messages stick, all brought to life by Charlie Keable, a professional voice-over artist with just the right tone for the audience.

Show, don’t tell

Oil and gas professionals don’t want to sit through long, wordy courses. So we took a ‘show, don’t tell’ approach.

Instead of cramming text on screen, we let imagery and interactions do the heavy lifting. Learners were encouraged to engage throughout—because clicking through slides isn’t learning, it’s just enduring.

A major focus was ‘How do you assess competence?’

We walked learners through practical methods, including:

✅ Witness testimony
✅ Personal statements
✅ Observation
✅ Product evaluation

And because industry relevance is everything, we kept the content laser-focused on oil and gas—real-world scenarios, real-world applications.

The result

In just a few weeks, we turned a complex topic into a clear, digestible, and engaging learning experience.

The feedback? A resounding success. Learners walked away understanding not just what competence assessment is, but how to actually apply it in their roles.

Not bad for a 25-minute course.

Got a training challenge that needs fresh thinking? Let’s talk.
